The 2016 season came to an end yesterday, with both teams playing Hazel Grove, 2nds away to league champions, Brian won the toss and decided we’d have a bowl, personally, given neither team had anything to play for, and given their obvious strong nature, I’d have had a bat, to get home to the bar earlier, but hey ho. 🙂
Despite their usual opening batter, who apparently gets their runs, dropping himself down the order, the opening pair still managed a commendable 66 partnership before Wilkinson was bowled by Pete Coxon, but it was his opposite number Chris Cooke’s session with #4 Forsythe that saw the damage done, knocking up a 151 partnership before being run-out on 135, this after being dropped twice, once on 63 and again on 99!!!
Having already used EIGHT bowlers, Brian decided enough was enough and put himself into bowl, getting himself two wickets in the process, before they completed their 45 overs ending on 266 for 7.
An ok’ish tea came and went, and Stalybridge’s innings ticked by at a slow pace until Joe Robinson and new arrival Phil Hammond took the field, with Joe managing a reasonable 55 while the next 4 batsmen came and went, but it wasn’t enough, the target was too big a hurdle, and Stalybridge 2nds’ opening season in the DCCL came to an end on 147 for 7 in fifth position in the league, better luck next year!
With that, it was back to the club for end of season piss-up, with the noticeable and vastly commented on absence of “let’s go to Uppermill” James Beswick, the night descended into a drunken stupor, with vague recollections of karaoke and jagerbombs, but gods, look at this monstrosity!
