[Week 15] Stalybridge CC 2nd XI vs Buxworth CC 2nd XI

Rain stops play, Duckworth-Lewis-Stern wanted. With what was supposed to be the final game of the season (which is now next week, due to last Saturday’s COVID related rearranged fixture against Tintwistle), I was back in the ‘Tiki hut’ after a couple of weeks absence, as Stalybridge host Buggy. As you’ve come to expect by now, Brian Stone won the toss, but at the time no rain was expected until late into the afternoon, so with a couple of new additions to the squad, he elected to put Buxworth into the field, and give some batting time to those who … Continue reading “[Week 15] Stalybridge CC 2nd XI vs Buxworth CC 2nd XI”

[Week 11] Stalybridge CC 2nd XI vs Hollingworth CC 2nd XI

Madussar Bashir bowls career best against Hollingworth on a bloody hot day! I thought last week’s was a good game up at Dinting for Brian Stone‘s men, but where last week it was a combined team effort of batting and bowling, today was all about one man, Madussar Bashir. After uncharacteristically losing the toss, Brian’s team were put into the field by Hollingworth’s captain Simon Lee, given how Ravi batted last week, and the subsequent destruction of their batting line-up, it was probably for the best, all things considered. With his first two overs a maiden, Muddy opened his account … Continue reading “[Week 11] Stalybridge CC 2nd XI vs Hollingworth CC 2nd XI”

[Week 10] Dinting CC 2nd XI vs Stalybridge CC 2nd XI

Victory at last, comes in an emphatic manner! After a little heavy rain first thing in the morning, the smallish outfield at Dinting was slick, and well prepared, so batting first was the order of the day when Brian customarily won the toss. Stuart Nock alongside Ravi Patel put on a 26 run opening partnership before Nock, not long after smacking a massive six over the score-hut I was stationed in, was caught at long-on for 15 despite the bowler’s front foot a good six inches over the line, a error not penalised on at least five other times by the … Continue reading “[Week 10] Dinting CC 2nd XI vs Stalybridge CC 2nd XI”

[Week 9] Newton vs Stalybridge – Successes off the field not transferring to on-field.

With the rain pouring down from the early hours of Saturday morning, Stalybridge’s 2s first visit to Newton in about 10 years looked in doubt all the way up to 1pm, with one umpire desperate to get away at 5:30 due to a family commitment, the other, a lovely man, but deaf as a post, and England playing at 8 o’clock, it seemed like we wouldn’t get a game in. But after another inspection around 1:20pm the rain had stopped, and the players were itching to get out and play, so the covers were rolled off, the toss was taken … Continue reading “[Week 9] Newton vs Stalybridge – Successes off the field not transferring to on-field.”

[Week 7] Stalybridge CC 2nd XI vs Dove Holes CC 2nd XI

After last week’s 68 run defeat to Hazel Grove in the Hawke Trophy, it was always going to be a tough ask to turn that around against league leaders Dove Holes. Winning the toss, Stalybridge Captain, Brian Stone opted for the only decision of batting on another glorious afternoon in sunny Dukinfield, but openers Alex Wilde and Jordan Sherwin couldn’t make any headway against the precision bowling from Cory Flint and Kevin Waterhouse, and both were dismissed by the end of the 7th over, with just 9 runs to show for it, but that was only the start of it, … Continue reading “[Week 7] Stalybridge CC 2nd XI vs Dove Holes CC 2nd XI”
